The Department of General Sciences, Schedules, and Examinations serves as a pivotal service and academic department within the structure of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering at Sudan University of Science and Technology. It acts as the primary administrative and organizational backbone responsible for steering the educational and academic process within the college and ensuring its smooth operation in accordance with approved regulations. The department performs a dual role, combining the delivery of the foundational scientific base for various engineering disciplines with the management and organization of logistical and evaluation operations for students across all academic levels.
The department’s academic mission centers on establishing a solid foundation for students through teaching core supporting courses and basic sciences, such as engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer applications, and languages. These subjects form the prerequisite groundwork for all specialized departments within the college, including Petroleum Engineering, Exploration Engineering, Transportation and Refining Engineering, and Mining Engineering. Through these foundational curricula, the department aims to equip students with the necessary analytical and engineering skills to master advanced specialized studies.
On the administrative and organizational side, the department is fully responsible for drafting and reviewing lecture and laboratory class schedules across all departments in the college, while coordinating the use of lecture halls, classrooms, and laboratories to ensure optimal utilization of available resources and prevent scheduling conflicts. Furthermore, the department serves as the operational body for managing examinations and academic evaluations—ranging from preparing mid-term and final examination schedules and allocating invigilation duties to supervising examination committees, enforcing quality assurance standards, and applying the approved academic regulations of Sudan University of Science and Technology.
