Continuing to monitor academic performance, the university vice chancellor issued a decision in 2004 to establish the University's Evaluation and Accreditation Committee to operate under his supervision. The committee was then restructured in 2006 to include representatives from all university colleges and to work under the supervision of the vice chancellor of the university. The committee carried out its mission by establishing the required framework for self assessment and evaluation across all university colleges and issuing the regulations governing self assessment and evaluation, with the support of the Supreme Council for Assessment and Accreditation at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Under the guidance of specialists in the field of self assessment and evaluation, the committee also created the self assessment and evaluation website and linked the university to the Arab Network of the Federation of Arab Universities. In 2009, the Quality Assurance Council at the Federation of Arab Universities implemented an institutional evaluation at the university, making it the first Arab university among four other Arab universities in the Arab world, and in 2010, the university was awarded a certificate for this. In 2012, three centers (the Training and Capacity Building Center, formerly the Center for Enhancing University Faculty Performance, the Total Quality and Excellence Center, and the Information and Documentation Center) were merged to form the Deanship of Development and Quality, which has six departments, with two departments in each center. The deanship is located inside the main building of Sudan University of Science and Technology in the Al-Mogran area, Khartoum state.
