The General Department at the College of Communication Sciences represents the common foundation stage undertaken by all students before progressing to their academic specialization. The General Department extends over two academic years, during which students study a range of introductory and common courses designed to provide them with fundamental knowledge in the fields of communication and media, familiarize them with the various specializations offered by the College, and fulfill the University Requirements and supporting courses that contribute to the development of their academic, intellectual, and cultural capabilities.
The courses offered during the General Department provide students with an introduction to the various fields of communication and media. This enables students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the nature of the different academic and professional specializations, while acquiring the basic knowledge and skills necessary for progression to the specialized stage of study.
Upon successfully completing the academic requirements of the General Department and passing the courses of the first and second years, students proceed to the specialization stage in the third academic year. At this stage, students select one of the five academic departments of the College, according to their academic interests, abilities, preferences, and the admission and specialization requirements approved by the College.
